The Sharps rifles are a series of large-bore single-shot rifles, beginning with a design by Christian Sharps in 1848. They were renowned for long-range accuracy. Originally designed for a 52-caliber 475-grain projectile, they were later converted to the .45-70 Government round in 1873.
