The DPM (Degtyarev Pechotnyi, or Degtyarev Infantry) light machine gun was one of the first small arms designed after 1917 in USSR. It was adopted as an standard LMG of the Red Army in 1927 and served with distinction until the end of World War 2. It was a rugged and reliable weapon, but not without flaws, so, based on experience gained from battles of WW2, it was slightly modernised in 1943-44 to become DPM. or DP Modernised. The DPM is a gas operated, Pan magazine fed light machine gun ( 47 rounds of 7.62 x54R). It was nicknamed the "Record player" by Red Army troops because the disk-shaped pan magazine resembled a gramophone record and its top cover revolves while the weapon is fired. It utilises a long stroke gas piston, located under the barrel, which operates a bolt with two side-mounted locking flaps. Weight 9.12 kg (20.11lb). Length 1270 mm (50 in)
