The MP 38 (MP designates Maschinenpistole, literally "Machine Pistol"), often called Schmeisser, is one of a range of submachine guns developed in Nazi Germany and used extensively by paratroopers, tank crews, platoon and squad leaders, and other troops during World War II. Designed by Heinrich Vollmer in 1938 and manufactured by Erma Werke. It used the 9 x 19mm Parabellum round held in a detachable 32 or 64 box magazine, this sub machine gun was capable of firing 500 rounds per minute. The MP 38 came with a foldable stock and was relatively cheap to produce and it was constructed from stamped steel parts
